  • Dr. Kao Kim Hourn takes office as new Secretary-General of ASEAN

    Source: asean.org Dr. Kao Kim Hourn officially took office on 9 January 2023 as the 15th Secretary-General of ASEAN. In a ceremony marking the transfer of office of the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao from Cambodia received the baton of leadership from his predecessor Dato Lim Jock Hoi from Brunei Darussalam.   • Kun Lbokator inscribed on UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

    Source: UNESCO, Phnom Penh On 29 November 2022, during the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, the Committee decided to inscribe Kun Lbokator, traditional martial arts in Cambodia, on UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Kun Lbokator is a martial art dating back to the Angkorian period (9th to 15th Century). It aims to develop the mental and physical strength and discipline of its practitioners through self-defence techniques and a philosophy of non-violence. As an embodiment of Cambodia’s social, cultural and religious values, Kun Lbokator has been actively performed as part of ritual offerings to local deities and in other festivals, along with elements such as dance, music and traditional medicine, sacred objects and/or amulets, tattoos, and weapons.   • ASEAN Gala Night 2022

    On 28 November 2022, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia together with other Embassies and High Commissions of the ASEAN Member States in the Republic of Singapore jointly hosted “ASEAN Gala Night 2022” event by showing ASEAN countries' food fair and cultural performance with aims to promoting the region's cultural diversity and its richness. This year's event was graced by Guest-of-Honour H.E. Mr. Albert Chua, Permanent Secretary (Foreign Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, with the presence of around 300 attendees.   • Joint Development of Renewable Energy and Cross-border Transmission

    by: Cambodia Investment Review Royal Group Power Company and Keppel Infrastructure Holdings have signed an exclusive and binding agreement to explore the joint development and operations of selected renewable energy projects in Cambodia. The projects will collectively have an installed capacity of about 2,500MW, to export up to 1,000MW to Singapore via submarine high-voltage transmission with KE as the buyer. The signing of the Heads of Agreement was witnessed by H.E Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Royal Government of Cambodia who highly represented Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia. Also joined and witnessed by H.E. Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, during the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2022 Neak Okhna Kith Meng, the Chairman of RGP, said, “Our exclusive Agreement with Keppel to develop and export up to 1,000 MW of power from the Kingdom of Cambodia to the Republic of Singapore, along with developing the power transmission infrastructure to handle power export from Laos, represents ground-breaking cooperation between our two countries and our two companies. “It is a milestone for ASEAN cooperation. Our business-to-business cooperation will contribute greatly to the implementation of the broader ASEAN Power Grid by increasing Electricity Connectivity within ASEAN by implementing key elements of the joint statement issued by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore during the 40th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting on the 16th of September 2022,” he added. The Agreement is part of KI’s strategy to source reliable and sustainable energy resources in support of cross-border power trade in ASEAN, including the potential of importing green power into Singapore.   • Discovering Cambodia – Insight into the Business Opportunities in Cambodia

    On Tuesday afternoon, 26 July 2022, H.E. Ambassador Sok Khoeun delivered congratulatory remarks at a webinar on “Discovering Cambodia – Insight into the Business Opportunities in Cambodia”, organised by the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Singapore Embassy in Phnom Penh and the Singapore Business Federation. This event was joined by panelists and other speakers. H.E Mr. SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia delivered a keynote address by elaborating on Cambodia’s enabling investment environment, especially the new law on investment, adopted last October which supplanted the old one, enacted in 1994 and amended in 2003 and which most incentivises investment in various sectors.
